The National Grid Priority Services Register offers essential support for vulnerable individuals during a power cut. You can sign up through your energy supplier or directly with National Grid.
The Energy Price Guarantee limits the amount suppliers can charge per unit of energy, helping protect customers from rising costs. Your total bill will still depend on how much energy you use.
Some households may qualify for extra payments during periods of severe cold weather. To be eligible, you must be receiving certain benefits, Pension Credit, or Support for Mortgage Interest.
Through the Warm Home Discount Scheme, eligible households can receive £150 off their electricity bill. This is given as a one-off discount rather than a direct payment. Contact your energy supplier to check if you qualify.
If you were born before 26 September 1956, you may be entitled to between £200 and £300 to help with heating costs. This amount includes a “Pensioner Cost of Living Payment,” an additional payment provided during winter.

Thank you for all who attended. We had an amazing time coming together and creating music tracks that unite us and allowed us to express our caring duties in a musical format.

5:45 AM – Waking Up: A Quiet Start to the Day
Family carer Khan’s day starts before the rest of the household. He takes a few minutes to himself, sipping on a cup of chai (tea) in the kitchen, mentally preparing for the long day ahead. Khan cares for his mother, Amna, who is living with Alzheimer’s. He uses this quiet time to gather his thoughts, check his mother’s medications, and review the list of tasks for the day.
Long time carer for a family member - Birmingham Carer Support was able to help Fazal navigate his entitlements which he simply was not able to do due to his caring duties. - Amongst the benefits and grants available to Fazal, we were able to assist Fazal in receiving a £150 carers well being payment thorough Carers Hub Birmingham.
